It is strange to see that a generation wants and likes something, but also has an adversity for other things, almost to an extent which seems to border fanatical. Not all generations are like that, and certainly not all people, each of us being different in their own way.
However, if we look at video games and the Sims franchise, we can already spot a trend. Millennials love the Sims, and that’s a fact. But why? Why would one generation love a series of games so much? Let us try and explain.
Millennials Are Far from Rich
Millennials were caught in a very turbulent time of change. No matter the country, millennials are far from rich, with the capital to make their dreams come true. Owning your own house seems like a dream that will never be reality for some millennials.
Then, you have the Sims, where in a couple of days, you could technically have your dream house. It doesn’t have to be a villa, but if your sim succeeds, then you can have whatever type of house you want, however big you want it to be. The community is also very understanding so fan-made objects are fairly priced, to accommodate the shattered spirits of millennials.
There’s No Stopping You
The world can be harsh with everybody there to look at you sideways or judge your every move. Some cultures are more harsh about this and people tend to like sticking their noses into other people’s business, or in most cases, private lives.
In the Sims, you can turn yourself into anything you think that you could ever be. You can do it patiently or through the developer console, in a matter of seconds. You are free to develop your character as you see fit, without judgment or any other unpleasant feelings.
An Escape from Reality
While your own house can be nice to build and your own character can be what you wanted to be, but better in every way, sometimes people just want to dodge reality and spend some time playing games.
The Sims are similar enough to real life, but entertaining enough to be different and to give us a laugh and keep us occupied for hours. Millennials certainly need the break from reality every so often.
Like most people who are enduring hard times, millennials need a bit of down time, and some of them get it by playing the Sims.
