Every video game has some rules that we adhere to. Some of us follow the rules to the letter while others are more lenient about what the rules mean and how to interpret them. When playing alone, it doesn’t really matter what the rules are, if you are having fun.
Some basic concepts and ideas should be followed in any game, if you want to play it the way the developer intended it to be played. The Sims can be played in a couple of ways, but here are some rules and guidelines that should give you optimal gameplay.
Your Game, Your Sim, Your Rules
This is the first rule to remember when you’re playing the Sims. you are playing the game and with that in mind, the rules are what you want them to be. From grinding from the very bottom on a solid piece of land to living in a coffin, you make the rules for your game, or that playthrough, or those characters. That is the entire point of the Sims. You can do whatever you want, which is why you should play the game as you like it.
Your Sim Should be Happy
If your sim becomes depressed, they may be prone to doing some self harm. The sim’s mood mimics that of what could happen in real life. They need to do their basic daily tasks, hygiene, food and water, toilet usage and of course, sleep.
These are the basics, but then come the aspirations and the things that the sim loves to do, or rather, wants to do. They should do these things, otherwise they will be unhappy. Your godlike hand shouldn’t push them too hard in the direction they don’t want to go, otherwise they might end up being very unhappy, which can have consequences.
The Console is Your Friend
When most people hear about the console, they immediately think of cheating. There are plenty of cheaters in the game and some don’t want to have their sim start out as poor as they can be. This is why some people love the console, it can give you money and that is enough for a game like the Sims.
However, the console is a great tool for getting your game unstuck. Every so often, the Sims have a bug which can cause something to break. With the console, you can reset the broken item and carry on as if nothing had happened.
Don’t Buy Every Pack, Just What You Want
The Sims is known as a series where every game has many expansion packs, from 6 to 11, with a lot of stuff packs. Every now and then, the entire franchise goes on sale, and that could be a good opportunity to pick up an entire game with all the expansions.
However, it is also worth noting that not every pack is worth your time, even though you would have all of it. Read reviews and look at gameplay videos if you want a better picture about the worth of an expansion. If you really like it and want it, then you should purchase it.
Look At Other People’s Creations
Most Sims games, at least the newer ones, feature online galleries where you can find cool designs to inspire you. You could adapt some of the things you see to make your own house or apartment feel more unique. The gallery is also a place where you can show off your sim and their success.
This was a brief guide on how to play the Sims, or rather, how to approach the game. Play the way you want, enjoy the game!
