We love the Sims and so do many other people, shown by the numbers and purchases. A life simulator that has no better alternative, the Sims are a video game series that have four major installments and many spin-offs, titles which are not really as relevant as the main ones, but can be fun, depending on what the individual likes.
Since there are only four games in the main series, it would be only logical to rank them in order, from best to worst. Keep in mind that these are only our opinions.
The Sims 3
Most would think that the latest title in the series but they would be wrong. The Sims 3 did everything right. They were not buggy, to start with. Smooth gameplay and fast loading times matter. Next, the game was everything that Sims 2 was, but better. The graphics were great and the gameplay was the most versatile of the games. It was a huge improvement on the second game and probably the best game in the series.
The Sims
The first Sims game is among the very best in the series, even though some would say that the game looks and feels dated. While that might be true, as someone who played the game on its release day, we can tell you that the game is still beautiful as it was.
Comparing it to newer titles only makes it go higher in the rankings, because the newer titles, while graphically “better”, still manage to do many things so poorly that we are left baffled as to why the new titles were released and who they were released for.
The original game and all of its expansions are pretty entertaining, from teleporting to makin’ magic, being visited by the grim reaper and changing clothes with a 360 jump. Oh, that is something everyone wished when they first saw the Sims.
The Sims 2
The second game is either first or third for a lot of people, mostly because it was a good game and still is, after you apply a ton of community patches. While Maxis made a good game, they also made a buggy game. We like a game that expands on an already great universe, but not one that is riddled with bugs (unless they are actual bugs, swarming your rarely cleaned home).
The Sims 2 can be a good game, after you mod it, but on its own, it is still not as good as the first and third game in the series.
The Sims 4
Finally, we come to the latest game in the series, the one that we don’t talk about. All jokes aside, it is a comically bad game from the perspective of bugs and gameplay. Some elements are terrible and worse compared to the first games. The graphics are very cartoonish, which might attract some players, but definitely not the older ones.
These are the four main games from the Sims series, ranked from best to worst. The list will vary for each individual, so take it as our opinions on the topic and not a definitive guide.
