When a franchise becomes as popular as the Sims is, then you have to wonder whether there is any difference between the games on other platforms, other than the obvious ones, that the PC is the best platform.
The Sims are available on a plethora of devices, with so many games other than the main four, that one comes to wonder whether the games play differently on a mobile device and whether there are any omitted features.
Here is everything that you should know about the Sims on various devices and platforms.
The Sims on Consoles
The first installments of the games were not as good on the consoles as they were on the PC. Every Sims game that was released for the consoles, barring the fourth one, was in a way worse than on the PC. They were worse for a couple of reasons, the first being that there were only two to three expansions per game. The first game only had two expansions while the second and third had three expansions. That was nothing compared to the nine and eleven expansions, not to mention stuff packs that were present on the PC version.
Come the fourth version, EA decided that the games would finally have feature parity. Part of that was because SSD technology and the rest of the hardware powering the PS4 and Xbox One became a lot better. The PS5 and Series X consoles are more than able to handle Sims 4, even in 4K.
However, console users had to wait until the fourth game (and arguably the worst according to most people) until they got feature parity with the PC.
Mobile Sims Games
There were multiple attempts to make mobile sims games, but only two games stuck and are still maintained. The Sims FreePlay was the first to be released, in late 2011 and early 2012, for iOS and Android. The game is regularly updated and still maintained. Both graphically and in terms of features, the game got better with every update.
In 2018, there was another mobile sims game released, called The Sims Mobile, a very creative name. The game got a worldwide release for iOS and Android in July 2018. The game also tries to bring PC experience to the mobile platform, in the way that the game operates and how you interact with the characters.
Which Platform to Play On?
If you can afford it, play on the PC. The controls are easier to use and a big screen always helps. Console players with newer consoles can also enjoy newer sims titles, while the older ones remain with fewer features than the PC counterparts. Mobile users can play on their smartphones, though it would be best to play the game on a big screen, preferably a PC and then a console.
The Sims definitely play different on all the different platforms, and to rank them best to worst, PC is first, with consoles coming in second, third being mobile devices. No matter the platform, there are plenty of titles to enjoy, so take your pick.
